Moving On From Daycare

I have been doing in home daycare for 8 yrs now and all my kiddos are getting older and going to school now. I only have a 3 yr old left part time so I figured it was time to move on and find something else to fill my time. I have decided to be a caregiver and help the elderly stay in their homes a little while longer instead of having to move to Senior homes or nursing homes. I will make visits with them a few days a week to make them some meals, laundry and make sure they are well and taking care of themselves. I will still keep my one little one as long as I can, this will give me a way of helping out someone else for a while. I am hoping I can get a couple of clients to start out next week, the company I will be working for is nationwide and well known so I am hoping for good things to come. Do any of you caregivers and how do you like it? Wish me luck.

Good for you, that would be such a rewarding type of work to do, I love working with seniors and have spent many years doing so.

That is great Susan, I don't think I could live with them but we just go over for a few hours a couple of days a week. I hope I will enjoy it as much as you do. Thanks

Best Wishes @Maggs224 You're going to embark on an adventure where you will have the opportunity to truly touch the lives of others, to comfort and care for them as they transition to the next journey. I have a friend who did it for years, but she had to quit, it hurt her heart to much when they passed on. But they loved her dearly because she gave authentically of herself. Many blessings!

Good luck to you. From another post where we were chatting you seem to be happy with your home health care. I did daycare for 14 years up in Craig.

Daycare is hard, I have also raised a lot of my grandkids and others children as well, it will be a nice change to help the elderly now.

I admire you for wanting to help seniors like that. I would love to do it but I would become way too attached and would be devastated if anything happened to them.

I am sure that you will be a great asset to the company and will be sought after by their clients. My friend does the same I will tell her about this post so she can pop over :D Good Luck but I don't think you will need it as you already have all you need to succeed.

I enjoy working with the littlies because they're so full of life. I've played music at old folks homes and enjoy talking to old-timers. But I've never been a caregiver.

This is such worthwhile work that you are doing both with the young and the elderly. The latter in particular will be pleased to be able to stay in their own homes for a while longer.

Yes, I know when my dad had Parkinson's he made us promise we would never put him in a home so we didn't, we kept him home and cared for him until he left us

@JudyEv That was nice of her, it wore on my mom a lot taking care of my dad, but she loved him and was glad to be able to help. Not everyone is able to do that, its really hard and tiring.

@cintol My Mum always said this too but when she recovered from hip surgery at the age of 99 she just went without us even discussing it. It was as if she knew it was the only option. She was so considerate not to make a fuss about it. It simply wasn't possible for any of us to take her. It's wonderful that you were able to keep your father out of a home.

Thank you Dena, I have been looking for a long time for something I would be able to do and really enjoy. I am so hoping this is it. As long as my back holds out, I will be ok.

I have not had experience in any fields, but an ex-co worker of mine she is a caregiver (live in). She said it's pretty awesome and flexible job!
