Did man really walk on the moon, or not?

My brother has been ear-bashing me about this subject recently. He claims that this event never really happened, at all.
Apparently there are a lot of people out there who agree with him. They are saying it was filmed on the Earth, and that the event has fooled the World, ever since.
One thing they say is that there is no wind on the moon, and yet in the footage of the event, the flag is seen to be blowing, or waving in the wind.
I remember when this event took place.
I was a young schoolboy at the time. There was only one black and white television set in our primary school. We were all told to go out into the long draughty corridor that went from one end of the school to the other. The classrooms all branched off from this one long corridor. We were told to watch this historic event there.
Because it was so crowded though, and because the ones at the back could not see very well, the principal told us that the kids who had television sets at their home, could go home and watch it there, if they wanted to do so.
I took this option. I walked home. We had no television at home, but I hadn't told the teacher this. I just couldn't be less interested in sitting on a cold tiled floor, and watching some boring event that we were being forced to watch like this.
Funny enough though, my mother, good woman that she was, asked me what I was doing home so early. I told her what had happened. She took my hand, and she took me into the old lady’s house next door.
The old lady knew nothing about this event, but she did switch on her new black and white television set for me to watch it on. (Strangely enough, this old lady's name was Mrs. Armstrong. Now that was a co-incidence, or was it?)
My mum went home again. She had more useful things to do.
The upside of this was that this kind old lady sat me down in her most comfortable lounge chair, and plied me with lollies, cookies, and lemonade the whole time that the moon-landing was showing.
So I did watch it after all.
“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” said Neil Armstrong, as he stepped onto the surface of the moon, on July 20, 1969.
Was he really stepping onto the moon though, or was his step actually being taken in some remote desert in outback Texas?
What do you think??

I tend to agree. They are only stirrers.
Government incompetence would lead to the destroying of these tapes, bureaucrats typically make mistakes such as this one.

Actually, with the inventions, and even with the discovery of places in the World, we have often been misled by the so called "official" history of the event.
Australia was not discovered by Captain Cook, for example, as we Australians were all taught at school.
Some people think that Galileo invented the telescope, or that Thomas Edison invented the light bulb.
These were both invented by other people.
This list at this site lists a few more of these wrongly attributed inventions.

@innertalks Sometimes, some genuine inventors do it for humanity and not interested in patenting them like Nikola Tesla - siva

Actually I also shared here a good memory of mine about when this happened too. This is not my theory, I just placed it here for discussion purposes.
Please do not shoot the messenger!!

@topffer Thanks, Actually my brother bored me with this for an hour on the phone, and I wanted to put it up here to see what others thought.
In some ways, I do not really care too much, because the truth about it is the truth about it, and will always remain so, no matter what anybody else says.
I think we have to accept that man did walk on the moon, otherwise, I could never trust any Government again, if they could get away with perpetrating a gigantic hoax and a lie like this one would have to be, if man didn't walk on the moon.
After all, it was not April fool's day but July 20, after all!

I worry about people who believe the moon landing was a hoax. Some even believe that things like the Sandyhook shooting were staged. Can you imagine how many people would have to be involved in the conspiracy in either case? Is your brother OK as far as psychology goes?

He read reports about the Russian president himself casting doubts upon this, and then he researched the matter further on U-Tube, and the internet.
"In 2009, Nasa itself admitted that it had erased the original video recordings of the first moon landing among 200,000 other tapes in order to save money, according to Reuters."
This act, if it is true, seems incomprehensible to me for them to do, given the historic nature of the event.
Read about it here:

@innertalks Erasing original video to save money is takings things too far! They should have given some other reason like it was by accident - siva

I do think it really happened. The thing about the flag waving-- the astronauts, knowing that there is no wind on the moon, found a way to wire the flag so it would appear to be waving. It would be rather anti-climatic if they are filmed just standing next to a flagpole with a limp flag attached to it.
Also, the original footage of the moon landing has mysteriously disappeared. Some say this alone is sufficient proof that it never really happened. However, others say that it is what is on the film itself that needs to be hidden from the public. Supposedly, there is evidence of artifacts and craft that is not from earth.

There are a lot of other arguments that support both sides of this issue too.
Here is just one more:
"After photographs of the moon landings were released, theorists were quick to notice a mysterious object that was showing in the reflection of an astronaut’s helmet from the Apollo 12 mission.
The object appears to be hanging from a rope or wire and has no reason to be there at all, leading some to suggest it is an overhead spotlight typically found in film studios.
The resemblance is questionable, given the poor quality of the photograph, but the mystery remains as to why something is being suspended in mid-air (or rather lack of air) on the moon.
The lunar module in other photos appears to have no extension from it that matches the photo, so the object still remains totally unexplained."
That the moon landings were hoaxed by the US government to assert their victory in the space race, is a theory which has grown in popularity over time.

Great story! Sometimes people are just too easily convinced that there is a conspiracy behind every bush. Especially these days but back then, the world was different. I don't think anyone working on the space project would have wanted to be seen as a charlatan, they meant to go to the moon and they did. The end.

Yes, you are probably right.
They were really driven to get there first before the Russians did, and also to fulfil that promise of President Kennedy's that they would have a man on the moon before the decade ended.

@TheHorse Yes, the TV sensationalises things and exaggerates/stretches the truth for the story at times I reckon.

FYI I believe the flag wasn't FLYING and had he (your brother) been paying attention in class the flag as televised was "FLOATING" since there is no gravity when one is in outer space or for this discussion the moon. So, your mother would be pulling his ear instead
because it is apparent that he wasn't paying attention in class especially when it was during science lessons.
I suppose you weren't good with your memory as well since you did not remember this vital fact
about gravity. What do you think?

I suppose I can accept what is presented here. But I really have to snub out all those negative conspiracy theorists including your brother.

Actually, the flag was placed in a wire frame to keep it stiff, and when the rod was pushed into the ground the momentum from this pushing/twisting of it, allowed the flag to wobble as if it was blowing from being moved by the wind.
Actually there is gravity on the moon, it just is not as strong as on the Earth.
I believe the flag only appeared to flutter, but that there is a natural explanation for this.

@Shiva49 Yes, the pictures of the unmanned landing on Mars looked to be authentic.
I think these arguments start just for the sake of the argument sometimes.

@innertalks I recall the words "history is written by the victors" so may not be the real deal - but why no more moon landings - then again, if people always doubt why spend so much on mars landing? siva

Yes, it was only years later that the conspiracy theories arose too, which makes me doubt them, as they too (the conspirators) must have believed originally in what took place on that historical day too.

This conspiracy theory has been floating around and also the many about 9/11. Then there are the endless sightings of UFOs and government conspiracies of hush up of contact with aliens.
I remember straining my ears to catch this occasion on radio as TV was not still around in India at that time.
Truth seems to be a casualty with common folks sent on a wild goose chase with internet adding fuel to the fire!
If all these these have an iota of credence, then we are really taken for a ride to the moon itself! siva

Yes, the iota of credence plays a great role when the real reason is not known, like the flag waving. Maybe one of the astronauts pumped some air towards it, from his own oxygen tank, is as good an explanation as any other too, I guess.

@innertalks Nasa should ask - what more do we have to do to make you believe us?
I think if God Himself appears before us some will want proof after proof - no wonder He has made Himself scarce "for a while" I can see Him throwing up His hands - "I just give up" - siva
