Is It Alright to Think Aloud?

At times, I find myself talking loudly to myself. Instead of just being quiet or just keeping the thoughts to myself, my mouth utters what I am thinking. We are in a place which is so quiet that you can hear when a leaf fell, or when birds sing, or when someone is walking on the road; our place is very sound-sensitive that I think my neighbor can hear me talking to myself specially when I am at my little garden! I felt awkward, thinking that my neighbor would think I am going nuts! What do you think? Is it alright for a person to be thinking aloud?

A strange question as talking aloud isn't something people do intentionally. I'm sure you also can't stop it intentionally. My mother did it occasionally when she became older. When I talked to her about it, she said that she had to talk to a reasonable person once in a while.

That makes sense. As I get older, I find that everyone else gets less and less reasonable!

Yeah you are right. It happens a lot. And the people sitting next to us are usually like she is insane and what not.I would say we should think aloud but when we are in our homes or like that.We should see the places where we are.

Thanks @shubhu3 for your comment. Yes, I do it only at home, not in public places where other people can hear me.

I have this habit which I didn't notice until my ex-colleagues told me. I was a programmer, and when I was thinking about the coding or logic, I tended to talk to myself. My ex-colleagues were used to it, so they didn't think I am crazy. My workplace was not really quiet. I don't know if I still do this now, perhaps sometimes when I think and write. I always think it's fine as it helps me to be more focus.

Yes, that's true, it is a way of focusing on what we are doing, as if you are telling yourself what is to be done. Thanks, @kaka135 for your response.

Thanks for your comment, @arthurchappell. Thinking aloud is a way wherein we could express ourselves, never minding what others might say.

I often talk to myself but there is no-one here to hear me except my husband and he is getting a little deaf. I don't think there is anything wrong with talking to yourself but I'd probably prefer not to do it within earshot of others.

What does it matter if your neighbour does think you a little crazy? I quite often talk to myself, especially, if I am going shopping, I repeat my shopping list to myself out loud (but not very loud) so that I don't forget it.

Yes, I talk softly, but my neighbors who are also my friends will always understand that I am just thinking aloud. So there's not so much issue about it.Am just wary of what they might think.Thank you very much @owlwings for your reply.

I also talk to myself , but not when anyone is around , even my husband or else he will tease me as getting senile. It's one way of expressing one's self and it releases the stress actually .
