Well I ask my both daughters who are are10and6 years of age respectively.
My younger who is notorious and innocent too sometimes asks mom why I have not eaten any sweets?
Then I always reply do you want to go to dentist as hadiya(her cousin and her age sake too) goes. She has some problems with her teeth so she visits off and on to dentist.
My daughter immediately leave for bathroom after my question.

Yes at an early age we should already let our children know the importance of brushing the teeth 3x a day specially in the evening .
And you are correct in telling her that if she won't brush she will go to the dentist which they are scared of .
