I am not a very happy person at the moment. I read an article about diet soda and just how bad it is for you. Did you know that diet soda makes you hungry? I didn't. I was drinking diet soda in an effort to lose weight, not put more on.
Not only that, it is also said that drinking diet soda can lead to headaches, anxiety, and insomnia. What? How can a drink lead to all of this?
According to the article it says that the artificial sweetener can change your brain chemicals and nerve signals.
I don't know how it can do all of this. Do you believe that diet soda can be so harmful? Let me know your opinion. I think it can do some but this sounds like a lot of damage to me.
I do wonder how much you have to drink to have these effects? What do you think?

I have been drinking diet soda since the 80's - I am sure not going to worry now about drinking it. It doesn't make me hungry- I've never heard that before.

@HazySue I didn't hear it and if I did I didn't pay attention to it.

@Raelove I used to drink 6, 12 oz bottles a day - I cut way way back. Evenings I now only drink 1, six can of Ginger Ale and 1/2 small bottle of Caffeine Free Diet Coke at lunch.

@AbbyGreenhill I heard it from three different sources. I was wondering if anyone had heard it before or even experienced it .

It seems to depend on who you listen to whether diet soda makes you hungry or not. The Daily Mail (in February 2013) quotes a study by the University of North Carolina which found that there seemed to be little difference in the calorie intake of people who drank diet soda against those who drank water (both groups reduced their calorie intake by about 500 calories a day).
New research from the University of North Carolina has found that people who drink sugar-free fizzy drinks are no more likely to crave sugary or fatty foods than those who drink water.

On the other hand, Time magazine in March 2015 reported the results of a study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society which claim that 'people who drank diet soda gained almost triple the abdominal fat over nine years as those who didn’t drink diet soda.'
You pays yer money and you takes yer choice, as they say!

[Continued] ... Personally, I mistrust artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame and saccharin. I don't need to reduce my carbohydrate intake and I prefer to use REAL sweeteners (in moderation), such as sugar (either beet or cane) and honey, though I try to stay clear of corn syrup. I will accept natural low calorie sweeteners such as stevia, however.

I know that anything with aspartame makes my vision blurry. I think it's better to have one regular soda than 3 diet drinks.

I think you would have to consume a huge amount for it to be harmful but that's just my opinion. I never found that drinking diet soda made me hungry

I stopped drinking sodas entirely. I stopped drinking when I was in college when one of the school doctor led a seminar about drinking too much soda can affect our learning capability. I think that motivated me to stop drinking sodas. I didn't knew that I stopped when my friends noticed that I am the only one who always drink water or tea when we eat out together.

I know. I've been hearing that too. Makes me sad since I love diet soda. I'm not sure if it's all that bad, though I'm sure that plain water is much better. I'm sure if there are any bad effects in there, it's because of all the chemicals.

I've neve been big on soda. Diet or otherwise. I also avoid most things artificial. In fact I have been known to take a bite of something and spit it out. This has some artificial sweetener in it and tastes horrible. If I'm going to have something sweet. I want the real deal.
