Filipinos are fond of eating this food. Balut is boiled developing duck embryo.
My uncle is craving for this. He went to the other town yesterday afternoon and was looking for the sellers near the church but they said that it will not be available until 6 in the evening. It was still too early so he had to come home instead.
He stayed and worked in the US for so long and this is one of the foods that he misses. I think it is also available there at the Filipino stores but it is quite expensive. Now that they are on vacation, he looks for the foods that he used to eat here in the country.
This morning, when my mother and sister in law went to the market, they bought uncooked eggs and they boiled it. Later, my uncle can have all of these. No, just an egg or two.
I like this too and the last time I had eaten was last December. I ate it with spicy vinegar and salt. Have you tasted this food? Is it also available in your country?

If the duck eggs are fertilized, it would turn to balut in a couple of days i think even without an incubator if you live in a hot country like ours.

Yes. Others like to eat the yellow part or the yolk but not the chick.

Ala, kunak no sika ti aginaw (craving
) ti balut! English translation - - "O, I thought you were the one craving for balut/penoy!"
. . . I have a cousin whose mother was craving all the time for baluts when she was pregnant . . . my cousin got big head! His nickname is balut! I don't call him by that nickname though. . . I call him bal . . because his name is Baldomero.

I could eat 3 pieces of balut when I worked at the secondary hospital in late 1980's. Now, I have to content myself with just a piece because this is high in sodium. It also raises one's blood pressure.

@ridingbet Yes, we do remind him every now and then, especially that he is getting bigger (sideways). But it's good because he is into sports. He loves to play baseball and also training for taekwondo.

I have never eaten beyond two pieces. Hihi! My nephew also loves balut. When he had eaten two pieces, he said he wanted some more because he still haven't tasted it. Awwww!

That's how it is with those Filipinos living abroad . When they come home here they would look for the Filipino foods they missed from there .
It's a wonderment that i finally outgrew my liking of balut . I used to love eating it, but now i will pass by a seller without even having a feeling of liking to eat it anymore .

I do not eat it piece by piece like i would a hard boiled egg, although i love it, i do not want to look at it so i cover the top with salt and eat the whole piece in one gulp after drinking the delicious liquid lol!

Hahaha! Yes, others cannot stand to see the little chick inside. I don't like those with big chicks because the bones are already hard to chew.
