On Jan. 20, 1920 The Eighteenth Amendment went into effect and lasted for thirteen years.
Although alcohol was not supposed to be sold or consumed , it was illegal to manufacture, transport, import, export, or sell alcoholic beverages.
Prohibition quickly produced bootleggers, speakeasies, moonshine and rum runners smuggling supplies of alcohol across state lines.
Many Americans viewed beer or wine drinking as an integral part of their culture, not as a vice.
The Women's Christian Temperance League were concerned about alcohol's link to wife beating and child abuse.
Prohibition failed because it was unenforceable.
I wonder if it would be enforcable now?

I don't think it would. Governments have failed to prevent it being sold to under ages and so there is no way they can completely prohibit it

Not hardly. It's been in the culture too long. And, like tabacco it is a multi-billion dollar business around the world.

Very unenforceable but i was hoping for discreet tolerance.

It would have a very poor chance of success.

@zebra2222 I don't imagine it would be enforcable now like it wasn't back then but if people were smart it would help those that drink and drive and hurt or even kill people.

Wow! If they couldn't enforce it then, they sure as heck wouldn't be able to enforce it now! Unfortunately, I don't think it would be high on their list of things to worry about, since they're so focused on immigration, terrorism, wars and such.

@moffittjc Maybe they couldn't enforce but I still think it would be a good idea as there are way to many who drink and don't know when to stop.
