This day Jan. 27th is the day we remember the 6 million Jewish people killed in World War II along with about 5 million non Jews. The United Nations chose to commerate the victims on this day. We hope to never have this happen again. Countries having some type of remembrance on the 71st anniversary are: Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Isreal , Poland and the United States. In the U.S. President Obama will attend an event at the Israeli Embassy also the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D. C. will hold a couple of events. Is you Country having any type of remembrance? The picture is the entrance to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp

It is an important remembrance day. One that means more than just remembering but survival for some.

The Holocaust is something people should never forget about and how evil it was. What disgusts me are those who are Holocaust deniers. There is so much evidence that it happened. What is wrong with those people who deny it?

@LeaPea It was an evil time there is no getting by that. Those who try to deny it are idiots who wouldn't believe anything that is truthful.

I don't need a special day to remember this horror. I think of it every day, since we know so many who were lucky enough to have escaped and survived, tattooed and all.

@DianneN Some people do need a day of rememberance and I had a member of my family who was killed by those storm troopers. Unfortunately his immediate family never could find out what happened to him.

@DianneN My oldest son visited the concentration camp when he was in Germany and he also was aghast at the thought of what had happened there. Thank you it was my grandfathers brother who was taken out and never heard from agan.

@Marcyaz Most people need to remember, whether affected or not. I am sorry for your loss. My son visited many of the concentration camps and was horrified.

Like you, I hope nothing like that ever happens again. I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be in that time and in that situation.

@VivaLaDani13 Don't you think that ISIS and those in Syria are doing just about the same thing today as happened back then?

A horrible event that should have never happened. We must always remember those who lost their lives and survived the horror. I admire those special 'Angels' who hid and shielded so many.

Not much seems to change or we seem to like to go back to horrific ways for some reason. Sad time that was and still some seem to want to try and dominate the world like that again.

Yes, I live in the U.S., too, and there were several remembrances today. Even our President participated in one.

A extremely sad time in history when human life was so disregarded by the forces of the evil in power in those days. It is a good reminder even the incidents that have happened in more recent times and pray that their will be a day where life will be held as sacred.
