Giving Away Something By Accident

Have you given away something away accidentally? How did you deal with it? I know its a shame and impolite to take it back but when it happened to me, I tried to do so. It was a shawl given by my sister who was working in a different country. She also gave my in-laws each and I accidentally gave mine to my mother-in-law. I tried to get mine back politely by telling her that it was a mistake. The problem was she liked what I gave her already and I told her that it was fine. Later on she realized that it must be very important so she tried returning it but I insisted that she could keep it.

I think you did the right thing in the end by refusing to take it back. I would explain to your sister though.

I think that was really necessary and you were right that my sister promised she would give me another one.

yup one time i gave a 500-peso bill (it's quite a sum of money here) for a tip to a gasoline boy. i wanted to take it back it was already too late when i found it out. so i was just praying that it helped bring food to his family.

That was a big mistake but I do hope that it helped him in a good way like you said.

I never did my friend. If I had given to others, there is no need to ask back. It would be shameless, if ever I do such an act.

It depends on how you did ask it back but I never did take it when she returned it.

I am sure you did the right thing not accepting your shawl back. I hope she will give you a new shawl very similar to the one you gave her.

You are so sweet for letting her have it although you couldn't bear to part with it.

I loaned a book to someone and she was so delighted and said, "Are you giving me this?" that I decided she needed it more than I did.

That's a very awkward situation. I would also be hesitant to get it back from her. I think I will just keep quiet about the whole thing and I will tell the giver the whole so she will know that I really like it and because of some confusion it's no longer with me. I have not experienced giving something away by accident, thank goodness. I really wouldn't know what to do in that situation.
