Hydrangea The Next Cannabis?

Looking to the photos of my flowers, I noticed a nice one of my hydrangea.
This flower reminds me the story of the "Hortensia Gang", a group of young people stealing hydrangea flowers in France.
The flowers are very common and have no value, the reason behind the theft is that they "smoke" the leaves them mixed with tobacco.
It seems that the hydrangea flowers, when smoked, give a euphoric feeling and could even produce a hallucinogenic effect, the same effect of the marijuana.
People are crazy, the hydrangea contains a substance which is toxic.
Heavy smokers risk poisoning, because the toxins can build up very quickly.
Keep an eye on your flowers, if you have hydrangea plants.

It is a nice pink flower, which you have uploaded.
It makes an interesting reading about hydrangea and its leaves.
We mostly find blue version of this plant here and it survives in winter and spring of Delhi.

@LadyDuck - I have no idea about iron content in the soil. But you may be right.

@dpk262006 I know that if we want to turn the white and pink hydrangeas to blue, we bury iron nails in the ground, near the roots.

@Jessicalynnt I agree, at least they stop to find inexpensive alternatives that are dangerous for their health.

@LadyDuck honestly stuff like this makes me think they should just legalize and regulate pot, people are looking for this kind of thing anyways, and at least that one has proven to be, on the whole, harmless.

Never heard of this. Some people will - quite literally - smoke anything.

@LadyDuck i think a lot of times it is kids or young adults who don't always think about the long term effects of things. though i never did anything this crazy, i did do a lot of other stuff

I didn't know that, how interesting. We don't have any of those flowers but before my father in law passed away he had tons of them in his gardens.

@LadyDuck The ones my father in law had were huge. The flower was bigger than my hand. He had white ones and purple ones, if my memory serves me correctly.

Who knew? I'll be looking at the Hydrangea flower with a different view now- how weird. It is one of my most favourite flowers.

@MarymargII My grandmother had blue hydrangeas, I prefer the pink color, to make them turn blue it is enough to put near the roots some pieces of irons, nails are enough. Those plants like shaded and humid areas, never full sun.

@LadyDuck Have you seen the blue ones? They are quite breathtaking when they grown in a big bush. I used to have one where we lived by a lake but it didn't bloom well and we thought it wasn't getting too much sun at all. Do they need full sun or at least partial sun?

I have never seen this colour before.
That is news really. These people must be trying out every leaf, every plant, every flower under the sun to give them that feeling they are searching for
