I had a patient the other day with the diagnosis of "SAH". What is SAH you might ask. SAH is an acronym for Sub-Arachnoid Hemorrhage. It is basically a brain bleed.
This particular patient was not very old, just in her forties. She had fallen on a wet floor, and hit her head. She suffered a headache, but refused to go to a doctor, thinking it would soon go away. Tylenol and Ibuprofen did not help much.
After a day had passed, her husband noticed her slurred speech, and her crooked smile. She became somewhat disoriented, and he rushed her to the hospital. They did an MRI of the brain, and found she had the brain bleed.
Surgeons did what they could, but the pressure on the brain had been going on too long. She died, quietly, with husband at her bedside. Distraught.
Please, if you or a loved one have any kind of blow to the head, seek medical attention. Immediately. It could be a life or death decision.

So true. When I was a child my grandmother was our doctor. Unless we had something serious. And, I would doubt that a fall or hit on the head would have gotten us to the doctor. Scary looking back.

@cindiowens ...I fell on a rock and got a bad gash on my knee. My grams dabbed me with this or that and bandaged it and make me walk with that leg straight until it scabbed over.

Yes, for many of us it was old home remedies to cure a cold or other ailment. It is a wonder any of us survived the "beatings" we took falling and bumping as children.

Yes, it is sad indeed. Maybe she could have been saved had they come earlier.

Most times it doesn't happen, but you never know. And too late, is too late.
