Teaching the dog and hubby to drive

Yesterday all four of us walked the access road driveway to the mail box. Whoopie. And yet it was an event. We had cheese bits at the ready. Leah our Big Gal was a certified saint. She really tried. She walked like an educated pooch, not some wild Yanker and Puller of humans. And me? I must let go and let hubby drive. I told him what I do to communicate with Leah, the prompts, the Leah, Heel!, the left leg pat. Walking is participatory here. Walking the pups is work time for them. Its not go sniff the sagebrush, pups. Its head up and pay attention to your human partner! Work with us. Walk beside and not ahead. Keep an eye on your human and mimic, mimic, mimic. When I back, Leah backs. Now to give this joy to hubby. You can do it! Soon we'll head to town and work where there will be big time distractions. Wish us all luck.

What a job it is to train a dog. But what fun it is when they get it.

@JamesHxstatic I agree. Today I set up a bar and tested the dogs to see if they remembered the word over. They did. We had a fine game of them leaping over the bar when I said over! then they grabbed the ball that I tossed. I love watching such antics- dog leaping and a second later, grabbing the ball out of the air. Its another form of play time with the dogs.

It take less time to train a dog then most people think although some dogs can be more stubborn than others.

@amadeo Stubborn or just not quite knowing what the human wants? Or maybe there is something on their agenda not on the humans?

Ah! And here I had this image of Leah, behind the wheel of the car, learning to back out of the driveway!

Now that's a fun image, @rohvannyn. Sally would fit behind the wheel not Leah. Leah would be the back seat driver.

I sounds like they will be thoroughly trained dogs.
