My Best Friend is a Minimalist...

I admire my best friend in many ways. Within the last few years she has decided she wanted to take on the lifestyle of being a minimalist. What is this you ask.... Well there is so much to it and I can only say so much of what i know. There of course is the obvious where you only live with what you need. There are two of you, so you only need two plates, two cups, two forks etc. Your wardrobe consists of a few outfits that you can also mix and match into other outfits. So on and so on, I think you get the picture there. But it also means so many other things. It takes you away from materiel things. It gives you a sense that materiel things aren't the most important thing so you can concentrate on other things more important in life. A freedom if you will. There are so many articles out there if you are interested in learning more about the minimalism lifestyle. It goes into such a depth that even I can't fathom. Have you ever thought about going into a minimalist lifestyle, or heard of it?

And if that is what you are satisfied with then that is what makes you a minimalist. To not need the material things, but to concentrate on life and what life has to offer. It can be a beautiful thing really.

I like hearing the minimalist life style. I want to be simple, but I need the clothes part.

@T_gray Oh yes, I need like a wardrobe of clothes. I have too much and totally need to downsize, soon. I am still holding on to clothes I don't even fit!

Haha, I hear ya, I need my clothes too. That's the first thing she was able to do, was down size her clothes. She has like 3 shirts, 2 pants, I think a jacket, a set of pjs. I don't know for sure. But it is rather interesting.

@infatuatedbby She's helping me with a lot of downsizing. Just this past summer we went through my closet and got rid of a lot of stuff. We are going through different sections of the house a little at a time getting rid of stuff.

I try to be a minimalist but where I live people throw so many good things out that I'm always picking things that might be useful. The Bible encourages us to be happy with less. 1 Timothy 6:8 New International Version "But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that."

I wasn't aware of that verse in the bible. Makes sense really.

I actually do live a sort of minimal lifestyle friend. Because of moving so much in life, I have learned that the more you have, the more it is a chain around your neck so to speak. So we have as little as possible, just in case we have to move again. I dont mind not having things, way I was raised too.

@TiarasOceanView Yeah, I just realize that I really don't need the stuff anymore. Most of it I hadn't seen it so long, so why keep it. Like if it was stored in the closet, or under the bed the whole time. One thing about being a minimalist, is you can have stuff, but don't store it away. put it out on display and enjoy it.

I move a lot too. It seems every time I do, I get rid of more and more stuff.

I have heard of it and I'm sure it suits some people. I am trying to cut down on possessions but you couldn't call me a minimalist. Not yet anyway.

@T_gray It is a bit hard perhaps if you're a couple for one to cut right down when the partner isn't so keen.

@JudyEv That is very true. You both have to be up for it

"not yet anyway" It can take years to become one. She has been working on it for awhile. Maybe taking longer then it should for her. But it isn't an over night thing, that's for sure. But the lifestyle isn't for everyone, that's for sure

I have a friend who helped me to get rid of many unnecessary things, and I am grateful for that. I need to continue the de-cluttering, as things seem to add up. I am losing weight due to some new habits, so that will help to collect less fat..
