How Would You Describe Middle Age?

I read something in a Reader’s Digest one time and have never forgotten it. It said that middle age is “a time when action creaks louder than words.” I thought that was an interesting way to describe what we start to experience when we get older.
I’m not middle-aged anymore. I passed that point a few years ago. But, it’s interesting to hear those, who are in their forties and fifties, complain about painful joints and the “creakiness” of their bones.
I can’t complain much about that, even at my age, although I do have days when I feel the pains of old age a little more than other days.
I was talking to a “50 something” friend, who told me that she lives on pain pills. Not prescription. I’m talking about Aleve. (I think that’s how you spell it.) She says she doesn’t hesitate to take a pill almost every day.
She thinks it works wonders for her when she wakes up in the morning with aches and pains. If she doesn’t take a pill, she can quickly tell the difference.
So, I wondered what that would do for me on a day when I have pain. I mentioned it to my daughter and she gave me a handful of Aleve to try.
I was surprised that she, who is also “50 something” takes this pain medicine fairly regularly.
I’m going to check out the possible side effects of Aleve and other NSAIDS. Then, I will decide whether to indulge. I suppose they all have side effects, but one pill once in a while, would probably be OK. Hopefully, the body can handle an occasional pain pill without too much damage. I’m super careful about medicine though.
What do you think?

"Action creaks louder than words"
I've never heard that before, and I love it.
I am one of those of which you speak. I've never heard of Aleve, and just rely on paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief.
What was the question again? It's my memory that is failing more than my joints.

Perhaps Aleve is not available in the UK, I don't know. It's very popular in the USA. Since its chemically formulated, my concern is the damage it might cause the liver since the liver isn't designed to assimilate an overload of chemicals.

I have a few aches and pains, especially when the weather is damp like today. I only take a Tylenol if it gets really bad and I can't get to sleep at night. I take a low dose aspirin every night but that is to keep my blood thin. I can't imagine having to take Pain pills every day.

I'm still trying to figure it out. I see someone and think "man, he's old" and then I find out they are my age or a few years younger!

Yes, some people look old for their age and some look young. It's difficult to guess how old someone really is anymore.
