Weekend and the timing of political announcements

Australia
February 5, 2016 10:47pm CST
What has been fascinating me for ages is the tendency for the government in Australia to wait until the weekends to announce political decisions and/or changes. While the population are distracted with recreation pursuits and the watching of organised sporting contests, the politicians are busy pushing out media statement after media statement, sometimes at strategically planned media conferences.

That happens here in the U. S. as well. It's even got a name - the "Friday news dump."

That's a tactic used all over...in the UK too. It's failing these days due to the 24hour news shows. Announce it at 4.30pm friday night you're still going to get sh1t for it on saturday, sunday and even monday if it's that bad
