Employee Wellness Programs

Does your company or workplace have an employee wellness program in place? If so, is there any kind of reward system or incentive system in place to encourage you to workout or live a healthier lifestyle? My company provides a monetary award to all employees who join the wellness program and earn a certain number of points throughout the year. For those employees who reach their targeted number of points, the cash reward is paid out in mid-December, just in time for the Christmas holiday. Incentives can include cash rewards, bonuses, rebates on health premiums or co-pays, lower insurance rates, paid days off, and even prizes. What incentives are offered in your employee wellness program?

Just having access to a gym is a good start! Anything that encourages employees to engage in healthy behavior is a benefit.

Excellent! I just started a discussion about this. I am lucky to also work at a place where we have this for us. It goes through our insurance, and we also have to complete a variety of tasks to earn gift cards - up to $100 per year I believe. We do things like these online "journeys", tracking our fitness, attending free classes, going to the doctor - and so forth - to earn points. Last year I made $80 in extra gift cards, it was amazing!

I completely forgot about that component! Yes, our insurance company offers the same incentives, so in addition to what the insurance company offers, our employer also offers the wellness program. So employees really have a double incentive to live a healthy, active lifestyle!

This is a great idea. A friend runs a wellness programme in her school for staff but I don't think there are any incentives.

It's such a shame that companies even have to offer an incentive for the employees to engage in healthy lifestyles. Even without a reward, we should be striving to live a healthy and active life!

There are no such programs in my husband's company. Only insurance can be claimed if you fall sick.

Since there were no incentives, did a lot of employees participate? I would think that half of the employees in my company would drop out of the program if there was no financial reward.
