Peyton Manning played a great Superbowl game!

After the Denver defense shone in the Broncos' 24-10 victory over Carolina in the Superbowl, a lot of pundits have been saying that Peyton Manning didn't have a good game, and was basically just along for the ride. How wrong they are! Sure, Peyton completed just 13 of 23 passes for 141 yards and no touchdowns. And sure he had an interception and a lost fumble (when the ball was stripped out of his hand by a blitzer). Was that a bad performance that didn't help his team? Absolutely not! What the commentators miss is that Peyton played exactly the game he needed to play. The Broncos played with the lead the whole game. Rather than putting on a display of passing brilliance, Peyton's job was to protect that lead. So, he played a very conservative game, not taking any chances. If the Broncos had been behind, it would have been a different story. If Peyton had needed to fill the air with footballs in order to catch up, he would have played a very different game. The critics might have been more pleased if Peyton had put the ball in the air 50 times, but then we might be talking about how the Broncos lost instead of how they won. Peyton Manning played a great Superbowl game because he played a smart one.

I am a die hard Panther's fan and a fan of Peyton Manning. I really tire of hearing the commentator's being disrespectful to any player. Unfortunately there are many 24 hour 7 day a week sports channels so they must fill the air time up and they hash and rehash and hash again the same things instead of looking at the entire game from all angles. Personally I though Peyton played an outstanding game. He did what he had to do to help them win. Just as their defense did what they had to do to make us make too many mistakes. That was the difference in the game. It was a game that went exactly how I thought it would, low scoring, 2 great defensive teams playing their hearts out. I wish the outcome would have been different for my Panthers but I believe they will grow from this and come back stronger and better next season. Well done Peyton. Thanks for the memories.

I agree when your in the lead you play different, then when behind. Throwing the ball has a lot of risk, as you know the other team is great or they wouldn't have been there. Clearly, Peyton played smart and that is what should be expected with coaches to advise him with plays that will be successful. Its a team effort and the defense certainly kept the other team from scoring a lot of points.

Peyton did play a great game @RonElFran . Only getting sacked 2c let's you know too that the defense was doing their job too. Did you see Eli's face when his bro won? How weird was that!
