Missing My Departed Friends

Over the years I have lost a lot of friends to drug overdoses and related illnesses. Tonight I happened across an old Day Runner that was filled with pictures, concert ticket stubs and reminders on neon colored Post-It Notes. I flipped through the pages and ended up laughing, crying and smiling all at the same time. While it would be awesome to never have to deal with a drug overdose again, it's an eventual happening. Some seek a way to escape problems, others are chasing a high that they'll never catch. I consider myself lucky that I managed to get through the tumultuous years unscathed but I wish that my friends were here with me instead of being worm food. It might sound cold to say this but some of my friends are better off dead; their families don't have to suffer any more when they see them emaciated and walking around like a zombie. Rehab never worked for them and short of handcuffing them to a bed or radiator there was no way to keep them from heading out the door to score. Death is an unfortunate part of life. If people lived forever then no one would ever be able to fully appreciate what life is all about – living.

I'm sorry you've lost so many friends. It's good you've been able to overcome your own challenges.

Every life is to be treated as precious but some fall by the wayside and not able to return to the right path. Yes, when every door gets closed we have little choice - siva
