I hate shopping so it’s always an ordeal when I really have to get something. I wear boots a lot and I tend to be rather hard on them. Currently I have a pair of knee-high black leather boots that I’ve had quite a long time. I’m not sure how long but I know my Mum bought them for me and she has been dead now almost 5 years. Last year I had the soles repaired and so they have lasted through another winter.
I did have another pair but they were beyond repair so they had to go, but I couldn’t face the shops so I wimped out and bought a cheap brown pair from ebay. They are not real leather but they look OK and were not bad value for the price, the problem is that although they are the right size in theory, in fact they are slightly too big, which is fine if I’m going for an evening out and only have to walk from the car to a pub or something, but any further and I get terribly sore feet as they slide back and forth. And now the soles of those are starting to come away and need re-sticking and the cost of repair is almost as much as I paid for them in the first place.
So I started looking around for something more durable. My daughter has a nice pair of boots from ‘Jones the Bootmaker’ which she really likes and they do seem to be well made and good quality. I’d not heard of that brand before but thought I would have a look online and see if they had anything for me.
Lo and behold, they are having a sale with lots of boots on offer! I found a pair I liked the look of, available in my size by mail order. I didn’t fancy that though as I really wanted to make sure they fit properly this time, but I was able to check online whether they were available at one of their stores anywhere near me. Sadly not in my local branch, but another about 25 miles away did have two pairs, so I decided on a morning out to go and investigate. Since they were reduced from £140 to £42 I decided it would be worth spending a bit of fuel to get them! And of course every shopping trip is all good experience for Pup.
When I got there the lovely helpful shop assistant fetched both pairs for me to try. Because the leather uppers are ruched, each boot is slightly different, so I ended up buying one from each pair as not only did those two boots look the most similar to each other but they were also the best fit. Even boots the same size are not always the same. So I was really pleased to be able to try them in person and get just what I wanted, but without the pain of traipsing around lots of different overheated crowded shops not being able to find what I was looking for. This must be the best of both online and high street shopping worlds!

@Fleura We have stores called 'Rivers' here and you try on your own shoes. All the shoes in the shop are on display so if they're not on the rack it's no use asking for a particular size. But I find that a bit easier than having a salesperson breathing down my neck.
