This is an update I guess on an older post. I have arthritis in both hips, left worse than the right, and some knee pain secondary to the left hip pain. This has been the case for a number of years now, but this winter, I have had quite a bit of pain. So x-rays this Friday and a meeting with the surgeon in a couple of weeks--Meanwhile, I am trying to get my head wrapped around the idea of surgery--anyone out there have hip surgery in the past?
How did it go for you and was it a good move for you?
Thanks!
Audrey

Most people seem to be very happy with the result--but it seems barbaric to cut off the top of the femur--I am having a difficult time with that part of it

Hip surgery is usually very, very successful. My mother had a hip replacement at 99 1/2. It gave her another 5 years pain-free. My BIL had his done and was only in hospital a few days. He had a frame for a little while then two sticks then one and is doing well. Good luck with it. You have every reason to see it as a positive thing.

@JudyEv That is what I understand as well--i know that they are now stating to do clinical trials on stem cell replacement of cartilage in knees--I expect that once they get knees figured out, hips will be next

@divalounger I don't think I've ever heard of a hip replacement that wasn't successful and of great benefit. Knees are not always quite so successful apparentely although most are.

f I have this done, it will be toward the end of May. Voice recitals will be done for a while and more importantly, my husband will be done with school for the year so that he can help me move around the house--I expect I will whine a lot!

My only surgery was a knee replacement. It was easy-peasy and took about 3 months for therapy after surgery. How did your hip surgery go? You should do an update. I'm glad you commented on a few of my posts, I have discovered you snuck in a lot that I missed...Sorry, I hate to miss my friends posts but often I'm not around to catch them. But i will catch up now that I know they are here.

Sorry you need surgery - I've decided if I ever have problems I'm keeping my own knees and my own hips.

This has been coming for over 10 years--I am hoping that all I will need is an athroscopic procedure rather than the whole replacement--I need to buy enough time for stem cell therapy to be more common---Trying to get through this life with my original parts!!
