What Do You Do When a Product is Discontinued?

I am beside myself. I have been searching all over town for the past three weeks for my favourite yogurt which is also necessary for health reasons - Activia No Fat Strawberry yogurt in tub size. I finally called my grocer's today and they said that product has been discontinued. Activia is a probiotic yogurt which is necessary for IBS. No fat, obviously, is necessary as with my illness (fibromyalgia) weight gain is an issue when due to pain you are unable to be as active as one needs to be. No fat is only available in Vanilla. I don't want vanilla. I want flavour and I want fruit. Not just want, NEED. In going to the websites to complain I saw on the American website that they have a "Light" Strawberry in a 4-pack. I can handle light. It was actually "light" before it was "no fat". But a 4-pack? Really? I eat this every day. The individual cups are so small I would have to eat two at a time. And this would obviously be more expensive in the long run. What do you do when your favourite product has been discontinued?

How about adding the strawberries yourself?

I was gonna say the same thing. I used to do that for my kids when they were very little - just smash some strawberries and mix it with plain vanilla. I find that the premixed stuff has a lot of sugar in it.

@much2say @marlina I was thinking about that. It's probably my only option... unless there is another brand with the same qualities.

I have complained to the manufacturer whenever something I really like/need is discontinued, or I can't find it at our local stores. Sadly it never makes a difference. Must be that I am the only one that liked something?

@patgalca I am sure that you are not the only one to complain. Hopefully it will make a difference.

I did send an email through the Danone website. We'll see what they come back to me with, if they contact me at all.

This would be so annoying. Can you add anything to the plain yoghurt to give it a bit of flavour?

That's my only choice... or see if another brand has something similar. It's got to be probiotic and no fat, no sugar and with fruit.

@JudyEv Me too. I don't want to be adding fruit to vanilla yogurt. It's not even plain yogurt, it's vanilla. Meh.

I haven't yet looked at the other brands on the shelf. I'll do that next time I go shopping.

Oh yea it will be way more expensive. I hate when they discontinue stuff I love and need and want,. They do that mess all the time. How bout you buy the fruit and put it in the Vanilla

That may be my only option, but strawberries aren't cheap.

I scream ! I don't know if there is Trader Joe's up there, but it happens at that store. I've had refried beans, a frozen pasta dish, some lemon dessert and some other stuff that had been discontinued there - never to return to the shelves. I know - it's really hard finding a substitute for something that was just perfect as it was!!

I got upset when Jamie Oliver's frozen scalloped potatoes were discontinued... but happy when they brought it back better than before. Hopefully that will be the case here.
