Belkin Router Support: Who really answers?

Having an issue with a Belkin Router, a quick call was made to a phone number given as theirs...but who really answers when you call?
The man said his name was Barry and he was in Chicago. Barry even gave the weather report: It was -7F on Thursday, February 11.
Somehow we were passed off to a company that will gladly sell you protection for anyone trying to get into your computer-but what we really need is protection from them.
When we were cut off, we received a call from a 603 phone number-and the man explained we could pay just $149. for a year of protection b/c someone had removed our firewall and while he was remotely accessing our computer, he saw several issues.
While we did not bite at that, we will file a complaint. Oh, and we immediately updated our Malwarebytes and more after that call.
Our newest router is not a Belkin-no idea what their connection is to the person trying to sell us something could be.
Our IT guy here verified it was a scam and happens all the time. Really? Even when we contact customer service of a legit company? Maybe so.

We are trying to 'get to the bottom' of this adventure. No one seems to have answers.

@PatZAnthony I hope you are able to get to the bottom of it all. It just doesn't seem right that a reputable company would refer you to scammers.

I got a wireless router for Christmas but I haven't hooked it up yet. Scams are all over, we have to be so careful it sorta takes the fun out of being online sometimes.

First where did you get the Belkin number? Was it on your original paperwork for the router? If not then it probably was a scam from the get-go.

It's scary how many are there willing to steal your money pretending to help.
