Behaving Badly

No, I'm not talking about children or even ordinary adults. I'm talking about the politicians running for the top spot in the United States government. In all my years as an observer of the political process, I have never seen such classless displays, shouting matches, insult slings and just plain obnoxiousness. The last debate was ridiculous. We need to raise the bar. We need leaders who act like intelligent adults with specific points of views and ideas. Nobody for president. Beam me up Scotty.

That's what we get when we don't care enough to take a stand. Of course, it doesn't help that most of society has been replaced with mindless drones who will either agree with the shenanigans or encourage them.

Well stated and that applies to those on both ends of the political spectrum. A free well informed thinker would be an independent who doesn't see an R or D beside a name but judges on the person.

You're right. I keep hoping that the young people will get more involved. Something's got to change.

@JohnRoberts I always choose based on their actions, not so much words, although the words show their characters. I never pay attention to the side they are on either. Personally, I am hoping someone pops out of nowhere to win the election.

One view could be the tasteless behavior you described as symbolic of the tasteless behavior in society today from the "class" of the Kardashians that enthralls TV viewers to the increasing general rudeness and obnoxious behavior one encounters on a daily basis. It isn't the politicians who need to learn to become adults but the vast majority of the American population who need to learn to become informed intelligent adults and not be 30-old-children playing video games and repeating what their university professors droned into them.

I agree we are our own worst enemy. I am appalled by how clueless so many people are. But the 30 year old still living with his parents is not running for president and probably doesn't even vote. It is up to us though to raise the bar.

@jstory07 yes, be set the standard and got the ball rolling. The others seem to need to behave similarly or they do not vet coverage and are forgotten about.

Poor Scotty will be busy beaming people up all month long! I think Bernie Sanders said what is going on the best during the Sanders-Clinton PBS debate. "That was a low blow!" They all seem to be seeing who can come up with the lowest blow.

Our politicians are just the same. All some of them do is deride others. They don't have an original idea of their own but just knock everyone else.

As you say, they aren't debates - just slanging matches.
