Everyone knows that Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world. If you do not know about it, you must have slept through your lesson when the teacher was teaching about it. Everyone knows that it is dangerous to climb Mount Everest, and yet every year so many people attempt to climb it. Many succeed, and many died in the mountain. Their bodies are left in the mountain. You need to pay to climb Mount Everest. The current mountain permit is $70,000 for 7 persons, but from next year onwards, it is $11,000 per person. On top of that, you need to pay for the sherpas, food, flight and visa. That is why I say Mount Everest is a cash cow. Nepal government is sure to get rich if they know how to make use of the fund to build infrastructure.

I did not know it costs that much to climb that mountain! Just imagine that many paid that much just to die in that mountain!

They paid more than that just to go there and die. They had to pay for the airticket, the accommodation, the food, the equipment and the salary of the porters. In the end, they cause a lot of grief to their families.

Wow, I had no idea it cost that much to climb the mountain. Where do these people get all that money?

They save up part of it, and they get sponsorship for the bulk of it. We are not talking just about the climbing permit. They need equipment, food, accommodation, airfare, and money to pay the porters too.

@scheng1 I didn't even think about sponsorship. I wonder how many people successfully climb the mountain each year?

The Nepalese government might be getting rich but the people certainly aren't. They are in dire straits since the earthquake especially.
