Some of our clients call me by my last name

I am not comfortable especially when they send me an email and call me by my last name. I wonder why my last name is sometimes mistaken for my first name. In my email signature, there is no comma that separates the 2 names but why do they call me by my last name? Look at the difference: First Name Last Name Last Name, First Name My email signature format is the first one. One time I corrected the Vice President and she apologized thru email. My managers are copied. I felt how sorry she was and since then, I no longer correct those who call me by my last name but I feel so uncomfortable. What to do?

I always use my first name first, but I also like to use my initial. So I am Peter B. Giblett. That said I have been called by my surname in business, but that is getting rarer. That said you should explain the first time if there is ever confusion, which should help to clarify the situation.

Yes, @pgiblett. It's also my fault. I'm not correcting them.

@wittynet You MUST explain one time, after that there is no helping them.

The business rule is to use our first name first, so nobody never make a mistake with my name.

In our country, we are being called in our last name. For western people, they are comfortable calling people by its first name.

I am now more conscious of calling people either by their full name or their first name. I have experienced getting called by my last name only and I didn't like it.
