How Much Calories Our Body Needs?

Are you wondering how much calories needed by our body each day? I had no idea until my tennis buddy, a health buff, gave me a friendly impromptu lecture about calories in the tennis court last summer. By the way, I am sure not every one of us knows what a calorie is. According to my friend a calorie is the amount of energy provided by foods that our “working” body needs in a day. According to him we need about 1500 to 2000 calories to be able to play a two-set of tennis. Then he asked me what I ate for breakfast before I headed to the tennis court. I ate one jumbo hotdog, 2 boiled small eggs, and a cup of boiled white rice. According to him a jumbo hotdog contains 270 calories, 2 boiled small eggs contain a total amount of 140 calories, and 1 cup of boiled white rice contains 200 calories. So, I got a total amount of 610 calories in my system only. Insufficient! No wonder why I was already exhausted and panting after playing just a set of tennis with him. I asked him how much calories I need doing my job as a host in the grocery store. According to him since my job does not require me to walk a lot, lift heavy stuff, and that all I do is to smile, say Hi, and flirt, I just need 696 calories. Funny guy - - but I think he is right! I mean I don't need so much calories doing my light job.

@Lucky15 I guess so! I think I have to make some changes with the drawing complementing my article. . . The hotdog is too huge while the two eggs are tiny!

An adult male needs much more calories than what he is talking about. Is he stick thin like a bean pole? Smiling and flirting costs 2000 calories a day easily

You are actually both funny , to be talking about calories like most women talks about . I thought only women talks about them out of their frustration of getting bigger .

@SIMPLYD . . what happened was after a set of tennis, I was already exhausted and panting like an old dog while he was not . . . So, I had to rest for half an hour. He gave me a lecture about energy, stamina, and so on . . and it ended up about calories.

He sounds an entertaining friend! I have a little book I bought second-hand and it has lists of how many calories in different foods but I don't think I've ever opened it.

@JudyEv - - Aside from being a health buff and working out regularly, he has a sense of humor, too.

well, I think the calories we should take must be equivalent to the energy we have to spend. because if we eat much and don't spend the calories as energy, we will definitely have stored fats; ergo, Diabetes as well and big tummies.

No matter how interesting this calorie stuff is, I just can't remember these numbers like your friend. Is he a nutritionist? I try to eat healthy with whatever little knowledge I have about food.
