Guess Who the Doctor Is

Every time I have a doctor's appointment I have to play a little game I call "Guess Who the Doctor Is". I had an appointment and while we were waiting for the doctor to come in, two assistants or nurses came in, took blood pressure readings and some other quick tests. They asked questions and were gone before I ever knew who they were. Both times, I thought it was the doctor. When the doctor finally came in, she was dressed like the two assistants, so I had no idea it was the doctor this time. Doctors don’t even wear stethoscopes anymore because they use electronic devices to check your heart. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that they are all so young now. There’s no way to tell who the doctor is. Doesn’t anyone introduce themselves anymore? What’s wrong with name tags? Do you have to play "Guess Who the Doctor Is" when you go to the doctor?

That sounds awful. Our doctors usually introduce themselves. How confusing.

The only time I have to play guess who the doctor is are the times I visit the Urgent Care Clinic. I am on a first name basis with my GI and my GP takes care of my folks, me, and my wife.

It's so good that your doctors know you and your family well.

So much is done now by assistants that by the time the doctor enters the exam room there isn't much left for him to do.

That's true. Physicians' Assistant is a growing career as more and more work is being taken off of the doctors.

I do find the doctor generally introduces him or herself at least.

That's the way it should be. I don't know why a doctor would object to wearing a white coat.
