Election Time In Illinois

About a year ago Illinois passed into law, a new rule about registering and voting. The new law states that any Illinois citizen who lives in a county with more that 100,000 in population may register to vote on election day and then they may vote. It used to be you had to be registered to vote at least 30 days before any election to be able to vote. For the counties with less than 100,000 in population I'm unsure what the rule is for them or why it would be different than any other county. This new law caused a ton of problems on the last major election in Illinois. The County Clerks offices across the state were overrun with people registering to vote on election day. Most didn't have enough staff to process this wave of people in a timely manner and other means of getting these people registered on election day had to be found. I am an election judge. I have been doing it for about 5 or 6 years now. I really do enjoy the whole process of being an election judge. Not fond of the 15 to 16 hour day on election day, but otherwise I really like doing it. My county has decided to use e poll books, so we can move voters along more quickly as well as register voters. We have to be connected to all precincts in the county as well as to the County Clerks office. This so that no single voter can fraudulently register and vote in more than one place. So today I had a 3 hour class on how to learn to use the new e poll books and how to register a voter. I am also a touch screen judge, have been the entire time I have been doing this and I have a 1 hour refresher class for that. So that's why I haven't been here much today.

I have no idea, from what I understand Alabama asks that you register early.

I think that in the future, could be the near future we will be voting on our computers from home. It would save all the states lots of money.

I hope so too. Often you get angry people in there to vote and we just smile and try to help.
