When I was a kid, I used to collect scented stationeries. The better the scent and the shape and print, the higher its value. At least for me and those like-minded friends. I remember that I would save my allowance and every Friday, I would go to this fancy store (because most of the time I can’t afford their candies and they have the coolest school supplies) and see if they have new stationeries. I never use these for writing. I just put them in a special box that I decorated with ribbons and stickers and some scraps of cloth. Of course the box itself is scented. Then we would show it off to our playmates and see if we can have some trade. I even remember that a couple of my friends did not speak to each other because of an incident concerning the stationeries. Yep, life then was so simple.
I remember this now because I received a message from my mom that while cleaning out my old closet in their house, they chanced upon my secret stash of stationeries. They were no longer scented, and the paper has yellowed with age. She asked me if I still want these, and I told her not really. I have the wonderful memories of collecting stationeries with me. Also, it has accumulated dust bunnies over the years and I don’t think it is safe for anyone to retain it. She did tell me that she will try to go over it real quick just to make sure that there is nothing valuable in it that she throws away.
