Senior apples

Our high school seniors sell apples to make money for their ministry trip to the hill tribes in Thailand. They get the apples in a two-ton truck from a farmer we know in the mountains of Nagano. They are the best and cheapest apples we can get in Japan. They sell them in bags of 13. I bought two bags right before Christmas.
The senior apples were beginning to be"senior" in more ways than one, so today I turned the remaining five into applesauce. A little lemon juice, a lot of cinnamon, coarsely chopped apples, boil and mash with a potato masher. Yum!
When I have "senior" fruit I always turn it into fruit sauce and eat it up by the bowl or on pancakes. What do you do with fruit that is past its prime?

Your apple sauce sounds great! What do you use it on or with? We don't have the habit of making our own fruit sauces, jams or compote so aged fruits usually go into the bin.

Mostly I just eat it from a bowl. It's very nice warm!

I think I'll be doing what you do in future! Sounds yummy.
