The Flying Boat

Sometimes a goofy title will pop into my head and I’ll attempt to write something using the title. Today that title is, “The Flying Boat.” Actually that not too funny. Airplanes at one time were referred to as a flying ship. But that’s not what I was thinking about. Just imagine a regular boat going so fast it leaves the water and starts flying. No wings or anything special to make it fly. I would think that would be quite startling to the occupants of the boat. Here they would be flying through the air without any idea how or where they are going to land. Will they have a soft landing back on the water or will they crash into a hillside? Will the boat turn when the steering wheel is turned or will the boat keep going straight? “Oh,” you will say, “but it is a magic boat. It would be just like going on a magic carpet ride. It will do anything the driver wants it to.” But you are misinformed. There is nothing magical about the boat. It just simply went too fast and flew out of the water. And for some reason it continued to gain altitude. Oh, my, my. What are we to do? Or better yet, what are the occupants of the boat to do? What would you do if you were in the boat? Would you jump out and hope for a soft landing in the water? Or would you ride it out and hope all would end well? Would you wail at the driver for being such a idiot for driving it too fast? Would you have all the occupants jump up and down in hopes it would cause the boat to go downward and land back in the water? Would you chew the owner out for not having parachutes in the boat? Just what would you do if you were flying through the air with the greatest of ease in a boat knowing that it is not going to end well?

What have you been drinking @RichardMeister ? Let's see, I wouldn't even attempt jumping out and into the water - I'm not that great of a swimmer (or diver). I guess I would just order a margarita and enjoy the ride - and hope that we were flying to some cool destination. How about that - going on a cruise and a flight at the same time!!

@RichardMeister Hide that bottle of what? I can swim - I just don't swim well. And I'm a pool swimmer, not a wave catcher. I would love for the big rains to come at any time . . . let me know when they will come for sure and I will dig a big hole out in the backyard so we can have our own pool. As for the boat . . . ok, then I guess the little flying boat might take us on a 3 hour tour and we'd probably be flying over to Gilligan's Island. Cheers!

@much2say It seems like the bottle had something like Jack Daniels on it. But it must have been empty because there has been no firewater in the house for nearly two weeks now. I'm glad you can swim. I thought everyone in Southern California had big pools in their backyard. Everyone who owns a house in Southern California is rich, are they? Gilligan's Island, huh? It's too bad nearly everyone living on Gilligan's Island is no long among the living. Maybe you'll see some ghosts. Wouldn't that be fun? Fight, fight, fight! Beat the other team! 2,4,6,8, who do we appreciate? That the only cheers I can think of right now.

Oh, contrary, my good iceskating friend. There's been no firewater in this house for well over a week. Now where did I hide that bottle of boo.... Whoops, I didn't meant to type that. But you're not on a cruise boat. Just a small 15 foot or so boat that will only carry 4 or 5 people. No booze allowed unless you want to spend time in the slammer when the cops catch up with you. Don't know how to swim? I thought everyone living in California went swimming in the ocean. Maybe the next time you take your kids to the Y for swimming lessons you better join in. You know the big rains are coming this summer and I hate to see you bobbing up and down in all that water not knowing how to swim to safety.

Jump into the water, definitely. My son's band often had goofy titles for songs...one was Goat in a Boat.

That maybe the best option. I wonder how a goat would enjoy being in a boat.

@Jeanniemaries You would have to be very careful, too. The goat may start eating the boat.

I'm afraid of water so I would have to stay in the boat.

Let's hope in that case it ends well.
