The Grand Canyon When my family visited the Grand Canyon several years ago, we were amazed at the view. Unfortunately, it was VERY cold that day and we did not stay long outside. We did visit the gift shop and other buildings. It was November and the wind was blowing very hard. We just could not stay outside for very long. As it was, we were traveling home from California and decided on the spur of the moment to go to Grand Canyon when we saw a sign that said “60 miles.” So we left the route we were on, heading east and went north 60 miles, deciding that we might never get another chance to see it. And we were RIGHT. We’ve never been back. But, I did write down some facts about the Grand Canyon and I came across that information recently in one of my many notebooks. The Grand Canyon National Park spans more than 1.2 million acres and the canyon is 277 river miles long. It is slightly more than a mile deep at its deepest point and 18 miles rim-to-rim at its widest point. The canyon is home to no less than, 89 species of mammals, 385 species of birds and more than 1500 species of plants and vegetation. It was awesome to stand on the rim and look across to the other side. Now, they have a new attraction there, a see-through platform that you can walk out on and look far down into the canyon. Not something for anyone who is afraid of heights, for sure. Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon in Arizona?

I have a non-fiction book written by Zane Grey about a group of men hunting and trapping mountain lions in part of the Grand Canyon. They would tree the cougars with dogs then climb a nearby tree and lasso the lions. They shipped them out alive on pack-horses. There are photos of the cougars tethered to trees at the camp. Fascinating story.

I had never been to this place. In fact, I had only seen in hard books and wished to visit the place someday. I like the rock formation and the ambiance as seen in photos.

Yes we were there in 2010. It was on my bucket list. We were there in September and it was very hot. And our trailer does not have airconditioning.

The Grand Canyon is one of those places that should be on everyone's bucket list if they have not seen it already. Great place to take the kids.
