Spring is getting closer and closer and that makes me very happy.
There are a multitude of birds that will be returning from the south, here in the USA. I imagine that migrating birds do the same in other countries, too.
One thing that I did when my children were young was to go on bird watching trips to the park near our house. We would pack a picnic lunch and spend the day in the park, looking for and taking pictures of different birds that we saw. Then, when we had a rainy day, we would have the children look at the pictures and draw pictures of the birds and put the bird’s name on each picture. We also had a “bird book” to do some research on each bird. Sometimes we went to library and brought home books about birds.
When children learn about nature and birds, in particular, they will appreciate the God who created all these wonderful, colorful birds for us to enjoy. Godly children learn to be kind to animals and to people and they will also develop a deep love for you as you spend time with them.
Bird watching if FREE and it’s educational and FUN. Your children will enjoy a picnic in the park and spending time with you. Put it on your calendar and let your children have something for which to look forward, reminding them each day as you get closer to the day. Build the excitement for this special outing. Then, let them pack their own lunches. Make some special cookies the day before and create a lot of excitement for when the day finally arrives. Always plan two dates, in case the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Teach your children that exciting things to do, don’t always have to involve spending lots of money. Your children will remember these special times with you later, when they get older. I know my children do.

With four great grandchildren, I'm always suggesting things to my granddaughter for her children to do, since they are home-schooled.

@IreneVincent There seem to be more and more taking on home-schooling here too.

I'm glad you liked the idea. Kids can enjoy nature and learn from such outings.

Yes, that's just it. When I was a child, we did not even have a TV, just a radio. And we definitely did not have any computers with games. We played outside. And I think it's a shame, that children don't do that much anymore.

That is a great way to spend time with children. Mine are all grown, and I don't have any grandchildren close enough to do things like that with. When our children were young, we lived in the country and spent a lot of time observing nature.
