It's A Dangerous World

I've been working on a series of travel Kindle books and I make it a habit to check with both U.S. and U.K. current government travel warnings. What I'm finding out is the world is an increasingly dangerous place. ISIS has long tentacles even reaching to parts of Europe. For travel, the Middle East is pretty much out of the question right now unless you want to go to UAE. Asia, in general, is iffy in many places with the exception a few safe countries. South America and Africa are doing better and I think I left my heart in Clarens, South Africa when I wrote about it. Do you travel? If so where do you go? Do you check for safety?

I have yet to travel abroad but have a savings fund for it. I would be checking the warnings and taking precaution though. Especially as my first destination will also be my first time on a plane.

I think everyone should travel - we just have to be more careful these days.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - USA, Canada, Mexico and Europe. I lived in Cyprus for several years. I don't travel much these days but I used to love it.

I used to travel quite a bit. Now, not so much. I have had other priorities lately. I also have issues with travel that have nothing to do with safety. I have digestive issues. I need to know exactly what is in the food I eat to avoid becoming quite ill. This limits where I can go now, but I should be able to travel to anyplace that has boring food or non-gourmet restaurants (as long as I can communicate with the staff). Otherwise, I no longer travel to iffy places, like I did in the past. I'm 67 now and travel mostly alone. These three facts make a big difference.

I'm 61 now and also have stomach issues so I understand. For younger people though travel is a great experience. It's too bad they have to be so choosy these days.

@suziecat7 I love the tradition in many countries where teenagers travel for two years before going to college. It's a good time to "grow up" while seeing the world.

I do not travel out of the US ever and when I do go to another state I will check the city to see what the crime rate is and if it is too high I will not go there but to a safe town.

I think travel is wonderful - opens our eyes to so many things. It's great that you've gotten to see the world and still do.

@suziecat7 I have always followed my husband in his business trips and every time we added a few days for us to visit better. It has been a great occasion.

I wouldn't go to any place that had recent acts of terrorism. We were in Tunisia just before those awful people shot the tourists on the beach, so I wouldn't go back there for anything. I'm going to Spain soon, and there's no trouble there.

It's sad that happened in Tunisia - it used to be a safe destination - I don't blame you for not wanting to go back. Spain is great - most of Europe is though there are warnings to stay away from Slovakia which disappointed me.

We usually travel in the US and Canada. We used to visit Mexico, Cuba and the DR but do that less and less as the world gets crazier...

I haven't been out of the US.But I hope one day to go to Paris. I used to want to go to Egypt, but after ISIS taking over I think Egypt is out of my dream places to go.

Nowadays the only travelling my wife and I do is around our native Scotland. Our eldest son went to Vietnam for a month a couple of years ago and had a great time - friendly people and not a hint of trouble anywhere. I guess we have to be choosy now.

Vietnam is considered one of the safe Asian countries along with Japan, Cambodia, Singapore and South Korea and a few others. I'm glad your son enjoyed - must have been great.
