I knew that I was going to have to get a new laptop but I still held out hope. I had a family member who is better with computer than I am, look at it. Well he copied down the product codes and the model type and looked it up. He thought maybe if we updated the drivers but apparently it won't do.
I have windows 10 and the drivers supported are Windows 7 and 8. This is a HP 2000 Notebook PC.
This same family member offered to let me buy his laptop, which supports windows 10, but I'd rather not. I'd rather get a new one myself for several reasons.
None of which I'll tell you!
Kidding. Mostly it's because I am looking to get a laptop that has a great graphics card and a lot of memory. I also prefer to buy as new as possible. Potentially a laptop that is made with windows 10 in mind.
Also, I just prefer to buy it myself, and even if he'd charge me for his old one, I prefer to pick out and control it all.

@ScribbledAdNauseum An extra machine is always useful because it can be used offline with an older operating system or even used as a test machine for other types of operating systems, such as Linux.

I will keep it, but as for whether I'll use it or not, I don't know. It is still worth keeping just in case.

@Asylum Agreed. Not to mention programs become obsolete over time, it's good to have a machine that you know can run some of the programs you enjoy using. We have a computer that is over ten years old now but we keep for certain programs. I don't use the computer personally but it's there all the same.

There's your problem. It's an HP. I used to work for them and found it funny that they only had Dells in the department I worked in. I have purchased nothing but Dells for my personal use. I had to hurry one time and found a cheap HP, didn't want to but it was an ER, I was sure sorry. I won't buy another HP. Dells may be a bit expensive but I feel it is worth it in the long run.

It won't be right away. I have money saved but don't want to use it. I'll have to save money specifically for it before I do buy a new one. Which means this one had better not break anymore! If it does well then I guess I'll have to buy it with my savings.

aw man, that's a bummer that you have to get a new driver! But, I don't blame ya for wanting a new one though. I've got a Toshiba Satellite, and it has seemed to do me pretty well since I've had it. I've enjoyed it and the only problem that I've got is that I have to replace the battery. Which, I will get as soon as I can. Gotta get my cable bill caught up first.
But, if I were you, I'd look really good at the new laptops that they have to offer. And choose a more of a popular brand. These other off brands I've read on Cnet that they aren't worth a flip. Some of those brands are like: Asus, Acer, etc. I've had Acer before, and they totally weren't worth a flip! So, I got the Toshiba Satellite, and have had it for about 5 years now. And the machine is doing fine, except for the battery. But, good luck in finding you a new laptop. I hope that you get one soon, so that you can surf on Mylot again!

I still have to save for a new laptop. I have the money available to buy a new laptop, but as I told Infautated, I'd rather save separately.
