How good are you at bargaining?

Bargaining is an art. Lol, thats what I felt when I was with my Grandpa at the market today. We went there in my bike to buy some fish and vegetables for the lunch today. He really has a way with bargaining. I dont know how he do that. He could buy the things for a lot more less than the seller demanded him. It was really funny and amazing to look at him while he do that. He really convince the seller to sell him the product for the price he desires. It felt like some kind of magic to me. And I feel I have no idea on how to do these bargaining tricks. In fact I dont even ask the seller, the price twice when I buy something! I had learned a lot from my grandpa today. Hats off to him, he is a master bargainer! So how good are you at bargaining? Thanks for reading

I live in a country - Germany - where one doesn't bargain or haggle. The price is the price. Some Germans haggle when they're abroad as tourists where haggling is a custom. I'm not good at this.

Same as in Singapore. We pay the price that is displayed. That is why we watch out for sale when we can get things cheaper.

We dont bargain with goods that have a price displayed in its packet or something like that. Its done when only with similar things like fishes which is not sold in a packet here. Here the price changes instantaneously. ie. The price when we arrive at the maeket wont be the same when we leave. So its better to negotiate for a better price here.

I hate bargaining but I keep getting told the people expect it. I'd much rather pay the price and be done with it.

I've learned the art of bargaining from my late GrandMa, my dear Momma. When the vendor says her slippers cost P50.00 a pair, GrandMa says, "I'll take it for P25.00. The vendor says, "that's too much!", P45.00!" GrandMa says, "P30.00!" (then she motions leaving). The vendor says, "Ok, P35.00!" GrandMa says, "still very high. P32.00, take it or I will leave?" The vendor says, "ok, P32.00!" Ha! Ha! Ha!

@aju007 If bargaining is something your culture does, you shouldn't feel ashamed. Think of the person you would be haggling with. They are expecting it. If you don't, it's a letdown for them. Give them something to be proud of, learn the art of bargaining and everyone will be happy.

If your grandpa is good at bargaining, wow, it's something new to me. You see, in our family it's the women who are very good in bargaining. The men? They buy anything as priced!

Your grandpa sounds awesome. I haven't really had many chances for me to bargain. I'd probably do a bad job at it cause I am shy. So trying to argue / debate / bargain about a price wouldn't be a strong point for me.

In the USA, bargaining is done at flee markets or car sales, but usually the price is the price. For my bargaining skills are good (not great). My father is very good at bargaining with car dealers. I know the cost of the vehicle and I will get it to $700 over the cost and I stop. My father will spend another 2 hours and may get it down to $500 ($200 less). First, yes $200 is awesome, but sad to say I just give up when I feel I have done a good job.

Seems like your father is a pro in bargaining. Im trying to develop my bargaining skills. Your skills too are good. If I was at your place then I may have it for higher prices than yours. Im such a poor bargainer!

I do not bargain. The culture here is to pay the fixed price, and buy when the store is having great sale. If we have to bargain like that every time we buy things, that will waste a lot of time.
