Tornados Near Me! February 24, 2016 Many of you have probably been hearing about the tornados in Virginia. The governor has declared a state of emergency for the entire state. The town of Waverly, which is Southeast of where I live was devastated by a tornado and three of a family of four were killed, including a two year old little boy. His mother was badly injured also. She is in the hospital. Tappahannock, which is a town just east of where I live, was also hit with a tornado and there were several injuries and a lot of damage. High winds and thunder storms and lots of rain also caused power outages, flooding and several fallen trees. We were very concerned for several hours as the TV kept announcing over and over: “A tornado warning has been issued for our area.” My grandson and I cleaned out a closet under my stairway, that we were going to hide in, if the situation got worse. I kept watching the sky and luckily for US, the worst of the weather passed us by. It was a very scary situation. My son and his wife were both still at work and then had to drive home in really bad circumstances. I was happy when they both got home.

Oh NO! I am so glad that ya'll made it OK. But, I feel sorry for those that didn't make it through the dangers of the tornado. Tornadoes are very very bad. And I don't wish anybody to go through it, not even my worst enemy! I prayed to God that everybody would wind up safe that day. But, some didn't. But, IDK what their life was like, just hope that they were saved by Jesus. I have never been in a tornado, and do not want to experience it neither. I'm so glad that it passed your route in the state of Virginia. I know that was God protecting you and your family at that moment. Praise God! Is all I can say!

@IreneVincent I so know that it was! I would have been terrified, and praying to Jesus to protect us all! I cannot imagine the fear of being near a tornado. I've never experienced it, and don't want to. But, ain't that weird that it struck here in the Northeastern part of the country? Usually tornadoes are known for being out west of the country. But, my father has said that they are starting to come this way now, for some reason IDK why.

Yes, it was and IS very bad here in Virginia. Clean-up has begun in many areas and many trees are down and the power is off in several areas. We did not lose our power, thankfully. Thank you for your prayers. We are safe but many others have been devastated.

@danny1971 There were actually SEVEN tornados that touched down in Virginia on Wednesday. All around us, so we were in our "SAFE" place in the house. My granddaughter and her family stayed in their basement, until all danger had passed. It was a very scary day and night.

Driving in such conditions must be very frightening and potentially life-threatening.

Yes, my son and his wife got home safely from work. I was concerned until they got home. It was good to see them pull in the driveway.
