Well if This Isn't a Pain in the Mouth!

My appointment with my dentist was today. Me, being the frugal one, picked up my daughter and did our grocery shopping before my appointment. While at the store I checked the time and panic set in. It was 11:15 and I had 15 minutes to get check out my groceries, bag them, load them in the car, get my daughter home, and get to my appointment.
Thankfully my daughter helped me bag up the groceries and load them in the car. I then had 5 minutes to get to the appointment. I dropped my daughter off on the way to my appointment and pulled up right in front of the office at exactly 11:30. Wow, that was lucky.
My dentist xrayed the tooth, picked at the tooth a little bit, then advised me that I had two options. The first was to have a root canal, that had to be done by an orthodontist. The second was to have the tooth extracted and have a new plate made for my missing teeth.
Having had two root canals done in the past and they didn't work, I decided that the best option was to have the tooth extracted. Of course I will need to wait until this round of antibiotics has run its course. So now I wait until Monday when I can call the oral surgeon to make an appointment for the extraction. Hopefully they can schedule it sooner than later. I really don't want to go through this again.

I am so sorry, I really don't enjoy visiting the dentist. But I also don't like having teeth extracted, I had two crowns to save two that chipped.

I have never had my teeth crowned. One of the root canals I had done was supposed to be crowned but it crumbled before I even had the appointment.

@ElusiveButterfly oh bummer, mine was all done in one day, my own dentist did the two teeth at one time. I did find out however that it takes enough novacaine to down an elephant to get me pain free, evidently I have lots of extra nerves in my face, lucky me!! lol

@BelleStarr I have to be knocked out in order to have teeth extracted. The last time my dentist pulled one of my teeth I grabbed his arm when he began pulling it out. I cried, sobbed, and moaned so loudly that I know I could be heard in the waiting area. Probably scared the bejeebers out of anyone who was waiting.

Once bitten twice shy' seems an apt comment. I would do the same thing and if you have to replace the tooth with a small plate you will have saved yourself a great deal of discomfort.

I already wear a plate with one tooth on it. My dentist said it will take a little while to adjust to the new plate. His assistant said that it shouldn't take that long to adjust because I already have worn a plate for years.

@ElusiveButterfly I'm glad to hear that you are happy with a plate, they are much improved these days and you will forget it is there.

@41CombedaleRoad there are times when I have to remove the plate I now have. When I am feeling ill or it has just been in too long.

I am sure that the orthodontist would have charged far more than my insurance would have allowed. We do not have money to pay for such expenses. I'd rather get the tooth pulled and done with.

The last two I had done didn't work so I am not going to take a chance on getting another.

There was a time when I said the same thing Dianne. Now that I have found this dentist it isn't so bad. Even so, I have a strong fear of having dental work done.

Sad to say, I haven't been to the dentist in several years. ;p Just don't have the money for one thing. ;p I know I could stand to go though.

I didn't go to a dentist for so many years. I have a fear of them. After many years of neglecting my dental health I went to one. He is still my dentist to this day. Thankfully I have dental insurance too.

I didn't ask him why he didn't notice it before. It was probably not visible with the first xray that was taken.

I don't want to spend money we do not have to try and fix this tooth. Even if it was saved, how long would it truly last?

@Jessicalynnt it is the last molar I have in my upper right side. I need it to chew with. I had little oral care when I was growing up. Don't remember ever going for a cleaning as a child. The only thing I remember is having a lot of pain and my face being swollen from it. Then the trip to the dentist that ended up with me screaming. Scarred me for life.
