Renting a car online?

Hi all, I am trying to work out details of transportation when I go to see my mother. The last time I rented a car was probably before online was available.
Have any of you ever rented a car online before you got to your destination, and if so, how was it? Did you get a better deal because you booked online instead of going in and doing it the traditional way? I would like any information that anyone can give me. This is going to be in the States.

I have in the past before booking online, I got a good deal. I was renting a car in the UK and not when I was going abroad.

@petatonicsca I know I've had friend who have pick up cars from the airport with no problem in the USA before, Flordia.

@kevin1877uk I just was told by a friend that I can borrow one of their cars! Hooray! (This is why I have not had to rent a car in ten years; someone always seems to have an extra, which really floors me. How can you have an extra car?)

I had an easy time of it, never had a problem and everything done online. And the car was dropped off to me too.
But I see by your other post that you have been blessed with a car thank goodness.

Good thing because the "book" button on the rental website isn't working.

We rented a car via the net last month. It is easy and convenient. Since we already paid for it when we rented the car, so we just went there and gave the renting car company the driving license, credit card and ID copy. Signed the document and then we could pick up the car and leave immediately. I know renting the car online is much more popular in USA. I watched some travel TV shows. There are some renting car companies in the airport already. So the travellers don't have to worry about it.

In Australia we've booked online and it's been fine. I don't think there was much difference in the price - it just didn't take quite so much bookwork and time when we went to pick it up.
