I wear sunglasses because ...

I don't like bright lights unless they are somewhere up there in outer space.
I don't like the Texas sun much. The bright lights in the big city are a bit much.
So, I understand why celebrities wear them. It's not just cool to wear them but it's a matter of keeping your eyes protected from all the intensity and glare of sunlight by day and big city lights by night. Sunglasses with peripheral eye protection are better. My Smith and Wesson shooter's glasses provide peripheral eye protection and when I mow the lawn they protect my eyes from tiny objects thrown from a side discharge push mower.

My husband and I wear them because our eyes are sensitive to the bright sunlight, so ... I understand.

When I lived in Indiana as a small child being further up north even then I had to squint my eyes in daylight when out of doors But Dallas summers are intense. You almost always need head protection, aka a hat, and that is usually a baseball logo cap, lol, and sunglasses but nobody bothers wearing gloves because nobody cares about germs. lol.

@GrannyGee Not in the immediate area. But yes, I am sure there are many of those snakes just outside the area, going due west.

@lookatdesktop I know how hot it gets out west ... my husband drove a big truck out west for many years. I got to drive 3 years team-driving. The pavement pure melts, gracious! I bet you have many rattlesnakes, also!

It's always possible to buy transition lens sunglasses so you can keep them on inside, that is, if you require a prescription, such as I do. And some sunglasses have a variation of tint on the lens that is darkest at the top and half way down it is very light in tint so you can keep them on indoors while looking around. The fact is, overhead lighting in most retail stores is intense.

I am told that this is a good thing, but to be safe, don't look directly at the sun, even with sunglasses on, even with UV glasses. The sunlight is so powerful it can permanently blind you so remember never look directly into the sun. Many photographers wear special glasses so when they take photographs with the sun in the background of their images they not only use a special solar filter lens they wear special sun protective eye wear. If not they are subject to losing their eye sight. I love the sun. But the eyes do not.

I don't have sunglasses that I wear, as I have to wear prescription glasses. The prescription glasses have tented lenses, so, when I'm out in the sun, my glasses gets really dark.

Transition lenses are the best. I like to keep mine dark 24/7. There is too much glare from the t.v. set and I'm always going in and out of the house but when you see me not wearing them at any time it's just because I am parked at the couch watching my faves or at the computer wondering what to write next.

I find that some people use low energy light bulbs inside their homes, also use curtains and blinds to minimize sunlight glaring in some parts of the house. I think UV filtered coating or shades can help lower cooling costs in the summer inside your home and reduce stress. I do like bright lights when I look into a country vista night sky looking at the milky way stars however and lights on a fully decorated Christmas tree. lol.
