Photo Study – Pub Car Park Tank

photo taken by me - the tank at the Four In Hand

This photo is of a real army tank that was parked up for years in the corner of the car park of The Four In Hand pub in Didsbury, Manchester. The pub was named after a horse drawn carriage pulled by four horses steered by a single rider perched on the carriage. I never did find out who actually owned the tank. Sadly the pub changed hands and changed its name to The Greenfinch, and the tank was removed, presumably being the property of someone on the staff of the original bar. Arthur Chappell

Wow, i would have loved to have a drink at that pub if it was still there, really cool . That one is an apc or light armored tank, sort of a variant of the british fv or U.S.M113, our military still use that one for counter insurgency or to fight militants in the South, i like your picture very much

@arthurchappell oh thank you, it's because we have lots of this, it's light and fast and the only ones our roads and bridges can handle, the Philippines has no main battle tank, very impractical in jungle warfare and hard to transport from island to island

The real tank looks good. It's sad to know the tank was removed, but I wonder who removed that. He really needs a good place to locate this big tank.

@kaka135 almost certainly the owner / landlord of the original pub

Hmmm, it makes you wonder where the owner took it, and about the story behind his ownership. About an hour from here there is a Veteran's Park Memorial with tanks, a helicopter and various other military artifacts secured and displayed.

Is that a bird sitting on it? I want one or those transportation devices for grid lock moments. I'll just stop with the rest in traffic, turn the engine off to conserve fuel and if the traffic starts moving again and someone behinds me beeps. I'll move when I please and not before!

@Bluedoll Can't see a bird in the photo when enlarged - there is a classic Kenny Everett comedy sketch here about the easy parking for a tank driver
Kenny Everett suggests a Sherman tank & Crushes a Classic Leyland Mini - very very funny. Tank is actually a US Army M10 tank destroyer - Wolverine ?

That's a pretty cool tank. Too bad they took it, it sounds like it added some character to the area.

looks like an FV432, with a little turret. Shall have to have a search online to see what it is.
