What's in a tree?

A discussion by @OceanTiara prompted me to think about this post I'm writing now. She mentioned oak trees, which made me think about the great Weeping Willow tree that used to be at the top of the street where my grandparents lived (not on their property, several houses away). My grandparents eventually moved, but clear as day I remember loving that majestic tree. It was so beautiful. Now, I haven't seen any weeping willows where I live, about three hours away. However, there are scores of cherry blossom trees where I live. The cherry blossoms seem to be in bloom everywhere right now. I never thought much about trees, but do you have a favorite? I hope that weeping willow is never chopped down. It has to be hundreds of years old, thus so much larger than the weeping willows elsewhere in the surrounding neighborhoods.

We have a pink weeping cherry and a pink dogwood in CT that we love. I must admit that I love the Royal Palms in Florida the most. They're so exotic.

There is a horse farm about a mile down the road from us, and they have a very nice majestic weeping willow tree in the centre of the pasture. The horses will take shelter from the hot summer sun on occasion under the tree.

I love to watch a weeping willow's branches sway in a summer breeze. So delightful. I remember my aunt having one in her backyard. She rooted a few from branches of the main tree. Not sure they are still standing on the old property. I'll have to drive by and see if they are still there.

I do not know if I really have a favorite type. At my old house I had a blue spruce that one of my kids had received as a seedling at a garden show. It had good memories. Many of the trees I like come up on lists of nuisance trees. I like mimosa trees with their pink silky flowers . I like catalpa, with its bean pods in the summer and fall. The flowers when it blooms remind me of orchids. I have never seen one upclose and personal, but I really like the Princess tree, also known as a Paulonia. It is as big as a catalpa.

I'm sorry you can't transplant the blue spruce.

I love weeping willows, I want to grow one but I hear they do not do well here. I am not sure why. I may try to grow one anyway.

The cherry blossom is just coming into it's own now, and it's beautiful. I love old oak trees.

Weeping Willows are such beautiful trees. I think my favourite tree is Maple, they are so beautiful in the fall.
