Learning from Woodpeckers

Ending the animal themed day with the birds. Out walking I frequently hear woodpeckers tapping away and despite my best efforts, I never saw one. My luck changed, the other week, and I spotted this chap up in the leafless branches. I think he is a Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
Another lesson in becoming a wildlife photographer; I need a longer zoom lens. Mine wasn't up to the task and I have Photoshop-ed the living daylights out this picture, not to mention giving it a heck of a crop.
Next time I go for a walk, I shall be loaded down with camera equipment and trying to sneak along like a ghost. I may just stick to buildings!

Wildlife is so amazing but somethings very hard to photograph. You have a point about buildings they don't move or fly away lol.

You are doing well Ron to catch this lovely fellow.
Yes I imagine there is a lot more to the photo than meets the eye.

I was thinking it was a great photo - and it still is - but isn't it hard to photograph birds? My husband has joined a FB group called Crap Bird Photography. There are no good photos of birds but the members certainly have a lot of fun.

That's a good photo. I've found birds difficult to get.
