Another Deer Story

Earlier tonight, I posted a discussion about some deer that sometimes hang out in front of our apartment, which brought to mind another deer story. There is a VA hospital in Wyoming, where a lot of deer live on the property. There is also a homeless shelter on the property, and I used to work there. When I would work the overnight shift, one of my duties was cleaning out the refrigerator, throwing out anything three days old. There was always a big bowl of fruit, so I would take the bowl to the men's smoking area and throw the fruit all over the ground. At around 3am, I'd go outside to do my security check, and sure enough, the deer would be out there eating the fruit. It was really cool, and I'd stand at the corner of the building and watch them. It was a nightly occurrence, and the highlight of my shift.

That's too bad. They're really cool. I never get tired of seeing them.

Yesterday it was a lone deer that visited us. Then it took off across the street.

I imagine watching the deer quietly munching away on the fruit at the hour of the morning was a surreal experience.

Watching animals quietly eat is a simple pleasure that I also enjoy. Especially when I helped set the scene up.

I can imagine you would really enjoy doing this. We need to start throwing out stale bread where the kangaroos come to feed.
