Will Two Old Friends Meet?

We have just returned from a reunion of folks from my high school years. I had a message to pass on to a girl, who also happens to be my second cousin, from a friend that Vince plays golf with. The friend took out my second cousin a few times some fifty years ago.
My cousin now lives on the other side of the country and made a long plane and car trip to attend the reunion. After the reunion she planned to drive to Collie to Bunbury then to Margaret River. She left soon after us.
Our golfing friend left today with their caravan to travel across the Nullarbor. They will drive from Bunbury to Collie. We passed them on the road. So it is highly likely that these two old friends are going to pass each other on the road but not know it. Unless they happen to stop at the same shop for coffee. I wonder what the chances are of that happening?

Coincidences like that can happen from time to time, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that they both can stop at the same coffee shop. Years ago, I was on a trip to the other side of the country, and during a layover at an airport, I stopped in a restroom to use the bathroom. Lo and behold, at the same time, my brother, who was flying the opposite direction as me, walked into that same bathroom!

@JudyEv Once, I went mountain climbing in the Rocky Mountains in the western US, and at the top of one of the mountains I happened to run into another mountain climber from a different climbing party. We sat on the peak of the mountain to rest and catch our breath and take in the beauty of our surroundings, and we got to talking. Turns out he was in the same profession I was looking to get into, and he was the CEO of a major corporation. He offered me a job right there on the spot on top of that mountain! Since I had just graduated from the university, and was looking for a career job, it was an offer I couldn't refuse!

@moffittjc Wow! How cool is that. Life/fate/karma is really amazing at times. Did you hope and skip all the way down the mountain? I would have!

@Jeanniemaries It would seem like it wouldn't it? I've been so excited to find old friends here although I don't really know them that well.

@Jessicalynnt A couple recounted coincidences that would put this in the shade - if it happened.

@Jeanniemaries And we ran into a lady Vince worked with in a coffee shop in Ireland of all places. The other side of the world! Sometimes when this happens you keep thinking you must be mistaken and you're hardly game to greet the other person.

@JudyEv Yes, I wouldn't say never or impossible. After reading the comments I think this counts.... just yesterday my daughter was telling me that she was visiting my other daughter and was persuaded to go to a fireworks show on the spur of the moment. Normally she always showers and dresses before going out. She reluctantly went thinking that being 800 miles from home she wouldn't run into anyone she knew. BUT she did and the whole family was delighted to see her and introduced her to their relatives and they all hugged her and she was horribly mortified! We called it Murphys Law though! AND....another time in 1993 my niece from California was visiting us in Ohio and we took her to Kings Island. She ran into a friend from her church in California.

I hope you all had a nice time at your reunion event.
To my mind there are bleak chances that your friends are going to meet each other.

I can't see them meeting on this trip but you never know. There have been stranger coincidences.

You can call them up and ask if they have met each other on the road.
I always think chances are little, but who knows?
There was once my husband and I met our one of our high school friends at the rest area along the highway. We haven't been seeing each other for years, and who knew we'd meet up somewhere along the road?

This is exactly what I thought might happen to them. Perhaps they'll stop for a coffee at the same place. Who knows?

It is nice that the world seems a little smaller with easier ways to travel so that family and friends can reunite from time to time.

We are lucky at our reunions as some travel regularly from the other side of the country to attend.

It does, doesn't it, although one is happily married and the other divorced (I think).
