Bhastardization! Of Ancestors and Road Blocks!

United States

On my maternal side of things we know of an ancestor whose father had a mistress in another State from where he lived. This mistress gave birth to a son. While the father seemed to be a part of his life enough, I would still consider the child a bhaistard as he was born out of the bonds of marriage. I am hoping the filter won't pick up the word Bhaistard as bad. I do not mean it in the context that is used in today but rather the old context of meaning a child born out of wedlock. On my father's mother's side of things, I've hit a similar roadblock. It wasn't tough enough to find the little I am keen to on her side of things bu now I've hit what I think is a big roadblock. It seem as if the mother of one of these ancestors might have had an affair with a man and had a child out of wedlock whilst, yes, cheating on her husband, I can't know with any certainty though but only assumptions. It uses her marital name but the name of the man who is the father of my ancestor? His is different from her marital name. I want to go past him but can't as the chain seems to be broken. Even if I pick it back up somewhere it won't link the same as the cheater in this instance is a woman and ancestral ties are better via the father for the best results of individual surname / ancestral origin erm search lol. Seeing as I want to look and link the origins of this chain (surname) any further search with his father (even if I can find that info) would not come with the info I need. I am tired, so I will continue when I wake up. I hope I'll think of something to help me but in the meantime, do you have any suggestions? Sorry if this seems all confusing, as I said I am tired but also I am having trouble with the keybaord / mylot / who knows at the moment. For those truly curious, I see no harm in hsaring this :

Some women have many children by many different fathers. A hard thing to do their family tree.

Now perhaps, but that's not true of the ancestral line. If they did, then it was very shameful and never talked about. That is why I am having trouble somewhat, atleast I think. Now though it isn't frowned upon and records of our lives today would be recorded, fathers and all.

My mother and bio father didn't marry. My bio father's name is not on my birth certificate. My mother says it was frowned upon to put unmarried fathers on the birth certificate. I was in 1980. I don't know if that is true or not. Maybe that is why you have ran into a roadblock.

@JESSY3236 There had to be something somewhere as another person shared what I now know. It's just a matter of finding it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum But still back then it was frowned upon so there might not be a record.

The one time I tried to find out anything on my fathers side I hit lots of snags because I don't know a lot of first names of family members even my grandfathers name was always just grandpa and I was not even sure of my grandmothers first name as she passed away before I was born.

@ScribbledAdNauseum What state do you live in, what tribe is suggested? Did your family migrate from another state? Have you ever seen a copy of the Dawes Rolls of 1907 or thereabouts? There is a site called 23 and Me that does genetic testing. . . for about $200 and I would love to do that sometime, myself. I know my tribal connection and in fact have a tribal membership to vote absentee ballots and a certificate of degree of Indian blood. PM me if you would like.

Here in my home town there is a woman who has four sons and all of them are from different fathers. The good news is that all of them love their mother.

I guess it's still frowned upon in India, to have children by different fathers?
