Women Behaving Badly.

I was reading my book by the hotel pool here in Spain when I heard raised voices: 1st woman - "That's my sunbed!" 2nd woman - "Actually no, it's the hotel's." 1st woman - "I left my things on it". 2nd woman - "You were gone too long". 1st woman - (shrill voice) "I only went for lunch! Where are my things?" 2nd woman - "On that chair over there". 1st woman - "Cow!" With that the first woman grabbed the side of the sunbed, tipped the second woman off it and stormed off. Two women behaving badly. Fun in the sun! Photo is mine - sunbeds, but on the beach.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people still try to lay claim on a sunbed despite wandering off for long periods of time. I have seen people dropping their towels on a sunbed on route to breakfast.

@jaboUK This is a very good system because it stops selfish individuals abusing the facilities that others have also paid for.

@Asylum Some places have a rule that you mustn't be more than half an hour. Some hotels and cruise ships will send a staff member round to collect any belongings, and people then have to go and claim them.

Love your photo! Unfortunately, I have seen that all too often at resorts and on cruises, and it's not a pretty sight. When they're topless, it's worse.

@jaboUK Isn't that a common practice in Europe? They come to Florida and the Caribbean and dress/ undress that way. It's not too common here.

@jaboUK Great! I'm booking the next plane out! I am so uncomfortable, that I avoid beaches if that happens.

@Marcyaz it was quite amusing to watch, but I couldn't really believe that they would screech at each other like that, and then for one to tip the other out - ridiculous.

Isn't it just a shame that their biggest worry is which lounge chair they'll use, too bad it didn't rain on the 2 of them. Can ya tell I have a mean streak in me when I'm not feeling too well-lol

@jaboUK I seen that sort of thing happen on a cruise ship once. Carnival has a rule against leaving chair unattended, in order to keep people from hogging the chair if they are not using it. People cannot follow rules though, and it ruins life for everyone else. It is fine if the person who has there things in the chair is in the pool, but if they get up and go eat it is not okay to leave belongings there. This other lady moved the things off the chair so she could use the seat for her stuff while she was in the pool. The person that had been hording the chair comes back all pissed off, and a fight broke out. Security was called, and it just kind of messes everything up.

@slund2041 On the ships I've been on people are allowed to leave the beds for half an hour, after which a staff member removes their things. That seems fair to me. Otherwise, as both you and I have witnessed, it can become nasty.

I think the first woman is rude, rude, rude, why does she think she is entitled to hold a sun bed forever, next thing you know she will leave her towel overnight!!

@jaboUK Well she could have just thrown them on the ground which I think she was entitled to do. I am still thinking that woman one should be warned for dumping the other woman, she made it physical, that has to be illegal. Very poor conduct, were they Americans?

@BelleStarr Yes, she was very rude, but so was the second woman. She shouldn't really have moved the other woman's things. Regarding your last comment - when we were in Tenerife the chap in the next room would get up at 5am just to claim sunbeds for his whole family! Ridiculous.

@jaboUK then there was still a bit of childishness to these women because they were acting so irrationally. If I were one of them, I would just talk slowly and in clarity so there will be no commotion, and if the woman I am talking to will not understand me, then my sarcastic personality will come out. How? By looking at her feet then up on her face. (Her feet are better-looking than her face). I won't stoop down to her level if she insists on her reasoning.

I expect they were English? I don't do the sunbed thing but I do think it is wrong to save your place when you go for lunch. There was a bit about sunbeds on The Inbetweeners film.

We have a saying "move your feet, lose your seat". I think that should apply to the lounge chairs unless you are just going to be gone for a minute or two.

@jaboUK I agree. If you have to go to the bathroom or get a drink or check on your child or whatever, then it is not fair that you have to give up your seat, because you will only be gone for a short time. If you are planning on having an entire meal or going shopping or getting a haircut or whatever, though, then I think it is unreasonable to think that you should be able to save the seat for that long. Other people have just as much right to use it as you do, and they would be actively using it while you were not.

@purplealabaster That's a good saying. It's fair enough if you want to go to the toilet or get a drink, but 10 minutes should be ample of time to do that.

If there was a paucity of sunbeds I would have to side with the second woman. The first woman had a lot of gall thinking she could "reserve" her sunbed while she went off to lunch if there were people waiting to use them.
