Earlier today, I had a weird experience with a Manitou panhandler while walking home from our local convenience store. This was an old, grizzled fellow, a veteran of the panhandling circuit, and he was hanging out with the next generation of panhandlers. First, he got my attention and then extended his hand for a handshake, so I shook his hand. Then he asked for a hug. So I hugged him. After the hug, he finally asked if I had a cigarette, which I did not. So he gave me a fist bump and sent me on my way. Nice guy. Hope he got a cigarette sooner than later. I also hope he got enough money for a meal and a beer or two. Rock on, pops, rock on.

Some of them have it down to a fine art, don't they?

For all I know, he was trying to pick my pocket, but I don't keep my wallet back there.

@teamfreak16 Of course! That was the hug bit maybe. I am so gullible. I would have just thought he was being nice :)

I also had this experience. In some point, I got fascinated with their own way of gesture. I do sometimes give some for them to eat.

I tend to give more to the street performers than panhandlers,.
