The capital of Indonesia is Jakarta. The official languages are Bahasa Indonesian (official, modified form of Malay) also English and Dutch. Indonesia is made up of about seventeen THOUSAND islands and is the largest archipelago in the world. Six thousand of these islands are inhabited. Independence from the Netherlands was attained in 1949. In 1999, the people of Timor approved a provincial referendum for independence and the name East Timor was adopted. East Timor’s official independence actually took place in mid-2002, making it the newest country on Earth at that time. If a person were to write a book about Indonesia, it would have to be a VERY LARGE book, because of the many different types of people and cultures that exist there on those 6,000 inhabited islands. What is Indonesia and East Timor like today? I hope to add some more information later, so stay tuned. If you can add some information, I would love to read it.

I just remember the terrible times when East Timor was struggling for independence.

Yes, I remember that too. It was all over the news at the time.

It would have to be a very long visit, in order to go to 6000 islands. I just can't imagine doing that, but it would be interesting, no doubt about that.
