Consult for Oral Surgery? Can't We Do It Over the Phone?

Well, I am heading out to drive for 1 1/2 hours to see the oral surgeon. I decided to leave earlier so I don't have to break the speed limit to get there on time.
I truly don't understand why I need to be seen a week before the actual appointment to get the tooth pulled. Yes, she does prescribe medicine to be taken the day before and the day of the surgery, and also an antibiotic to be taken following the surgery. But, that can all be called in to my pharmacy.
They check the insurance. It hasn't changed since my last visit. They may take another xray of the tooth. Okay, well I just had one done a month ago and my dentist sent them to the office.
Thankfully it is a really nice day today. The sun is shining and it is almost 60 degrees. I'll drive up with the windows open and my music playing loudly. I'll make a venture out of it.
However, I wish we could just do it over the phone. (TWSS)
I would rather stay home and enjoy the day from the comfort of my lazy chair.

They charged them for the last consult too. The previous appointment also had an xray done on the teeth I had to have pulled. This last visit they used the xray that my dentist sent to them. I am hoping that the visit isn't going to drain my insurance. I still need to see my dentist later in the year to get a plate made.

@infatuatedbby I make sure that when I go to this office I get at least a couple of their great pens. They are complimentary as well so I'll have to get the hubby to take a couple too.

@ElusiveButterfly Dentists drain like crazy - every little thing is included so every visit, I always ask for my complimentary goody bag (tooth paste, dental floss, toothbrush, whatever sample/coupon is available). Sometimes if I don't ask ~ they don't bother either and it's charged in the insurance visit already!

She did explain what could happen as the tooth is located near the sinus cavity. Even so, it was a long drive and wish I could have just been told over the phone or perhaps in an email.

@ElusiveButterfly unless an exam is needed, sounds like a waste

The dentist is living within certain legal rules, that is why they need a paper signed. According to law in most locations a verbal assent is not sufficient. I am a great believer that we should be able to use electronic signatures, the technology is available.

She did go over what could possibly happen when the tooth is extracted. She is very good at her job. I just wish I could have stayed home on this gorgeous day. Oh well, there will be many more great days to follow this one.

It was a nice drive up OT. I enjoyed having the windows down for a short time. It was about 10 degrees cooler up north so I put the windows up when there. Headed back south and it was once again warmer and the windows went down. Lovely.

This one takes both of our insurances so that is where we go when we need special work done.

She didn't take any new xrays. The one taken recently by my dentist was good enough. I did have to pay $70 for my deductible. That is fair considering what the total charge will be.

My dentist is only a 10 minute drive from our home. This doctor specializes in oral surgery. I need to be put under for extractions. I recommend her to anyone as it is worth the drive up and back.
